Causes and Ways to Overcome Small Breasts

At puberty, a woman's body will undergo several changes. One of them is enlarged breasts. But each woman's breast size is not the same, there are also those who have small or large breasts. When women experience puberty, usually at the age of 8-13 years, the body will begin to produce and release the hormone estrogen. As a result, fat in the connective tissue in the breast also joins and enlarges. It is this extra fat that causes a woman's breasts to begin to grow larger. During this period, women will also start menstruating for the first time. Women's breasts can continue to grow during adolescence and even into their early 20s. Enlarged breast size will be different for every woman. Some have large breasts, small breasts, and even asymmetrical breasts, where the right and left breasts differ in size.

Causes of Small Breasts

Small breasts can be caused by several factors below, including:
  • Heredity

  • If your mother's breast size is large, chances are you also have a large breast size. Vice versa, if your mother has small breasts.
  • Weight

  • Having more fat in the body makes you tend to have bigger breasts. Even when you start diligently losing weight by exercising and maintaining your diet, one of the first limbs to shrink is the breast.
  • Menopause

  • As you approach menopause, your estrogen levels drop dramatically. As a result, the glandular tissue in the breast also shrinks, and the breast becomes smaller, less dense, more fatty, and sagging.
  • Breast hypoplasia

  • This is a condition in which breast tissue does not develop properly making a small breast size. The cause of this condition is not known with certainty, but is thought to be caused by congenital abnormalities, birth factors, or side effects of radiation therapy in the chest area in childhood.

How to Overcome Small Breasts

If you have small breasts and feel disturbed, there are several ways you can make your breasts look firmer and bigger.
  • Sports

  • Exercise that focuses on the chest, back, and shoulder muscles is believed to help improve posture and tighten and strengthen the chest muscles behind breast tissue. Here are exercises to tighten the chest muscles:
  • Do push ups 12 times, repeat three times.
  • Align both hands forward with palms pressed together, then open until both hands are straight next to the shoulders. Repeat this movement for one minute.
  • Straighten your arms to the side, then make a circular motion back and forth for one minute each.
  • Bend your hands by your shoulders to form a U. Open and close your hands back and forth.
  • Sleep on your back, both hands holding dumbbells, legs bent. Raise both hands up and down again 12 times, repeat three times.
  • Wearing a push-up bra

  • Using a push-up bra makes the breasts lifted so that the small breasts look fuller. You can also make small breasts look bigger by stuffing the fabric into a bra or wearing two bras at once.
  • Massage the breasts

  • Massaging the breast is thought to increase blood flow and stimulate collagen production in the breast. Later it can tighten muscles and increase breast tissue growth until small breasts look large. However, this has not been supported by scientific evidence and research.
  • Improve body posture

  • Walking and sitting with the body upright position makes small breasts look bigger.
  • Breast enlargement surgery

  • The only surefire way to make small breasts fuller and firmer is to do breast enlargement surgery using implants. There are at least two types of breast implants, those that contain sterile salt water (saline) and silicone. Saline implants are believed to be safer to use compared to silicone implants.
